Digital DIY at the Maker Faire in Rome
Following the presentation on the same topic recently held at the free/Open Source Software in academia conference, where we presented both the general and legal issues related to Digital DIY, the DiDIY project will participate this week at the Maker Faire in Rome.
The Maker Faire defines itself as "the Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth – a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the Maker Movement... where people of all ages and backgrounds gather together to show what they are making, and share what they are learning." The one in Rome is the world's largest Maker Faire, after those in the Bay Area and New York, and its 2015 edition will host more than 600 maker exhibitors, innovative SMEs, schools and Fab Labs active in all areas of Digital DIY.
The DiDIY project will be present at the Maker Faire Rome on Saturday October 17th, at 3.15pm (room and other event details available here and, in Italian, here) to present, and discuss with all participants, the conditions under which the instruments of the "digital DIY", which are much more diverse than the 3D printers or Arduino already covered by mainstream media, will:
- improve our society
- enhance the creativity of individuals
- enhance the increasingly widespread possibility of "open innovation".
The project, that answered the Horizon 2020 call for a "Human centric digital age", has been designed to be highly interdisciplinary: it will look at organization and work, but also training and research, ethics, legal aspects such as the protection of intellectual property and - not least - creativity.
