Digitally enabled Do-it-Yourself equipment, therapies and other healthcare procedures are becoming more and more common. Let's look at just a few, very recent examples first, and then at the questions they pose for our research.
The Digital DIY Project (DiDIY) studies, in the context of the EU H2020 Programme, the long term impacts on European society of DIY digital manufacturing, in order to develop guidelines for European educators and policy makers, that help them to deal with DiDIY and maximize its positive impacts on society.
We recently wrote that: The biggest impact will come when digital DIY is allowed or pushed to move down the pyramid of needs [to] mass customization of low-tech objects that everybody already needs and use". Here is a real world example:
